Revelstoke B.C. - Heliskiing Capital of the World

When planning a heliskiing trip, odds are you are going to end up in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. The reason is simple: nothing beats B.C. powder, period. With over 50 different operations providing backcountry tours in the province, the only question is which one to choose. Well, if you have chosen the de facto heliskiing capital of the world, you better choose the best of the best in Revelstoke B.C. Who’s the best, you may ask? The answer to that question has only one answer: Mica Heli Guides.

Heli skiing BC has been around since around 1969, when Warren Miller first featured it in his skiing films. The locations of those early, history making runs was British Columbia, and the reasons then were the same reason people still flock to B.C. today. Blessed with moisture laden air coming off the Pacific Ocean, and cold brisk air flowing down from the Arctic, this heavenly confluence of nature makes B.C. winters epic every year. Even though heliskiing has been around for a while, it wasn't until recently that things really took off. The reason being that the process for securing a chunk of crown land for backcountry skiing used to take ten years or more. Thankfully, the Canadian government mandated in 2001 that the Land and Water B.C., the agency in charge of commercial leases and tenures of crown lands in B.C., complete the application process in 140 days.

As a new type of gold rush takes place in British Columbia, things are starting to get crowded. However, that is not yet the case in Revelstoke, and certainly isn't the case for Mica's small group size service, and roughly 72,000 hectare tenure. Another unique feature of Mica's service is its remote lodge. Only accessible by helicopter in the winter and river barge in the summer, you’re guaranteed to find solace, solitude, and first tracks with Mica. Mountain lodge spa
